Samsung Galaxy Gear

TemplateThis elegant wearable device gives a new meaning to the phrase “dressing smart”. The Galaxy Gear connects wirelessly with your Smartphone* and makes sure you have everything you need right there on your wrist and within reach.

With an aluminium face and a rubber wrist-strap, the Galaxy Gear feels really solid and premium. It’s not dull either, you can choose from your classic black, beige or grey and for those who like more colour, there’s orange, green and yellow (or Rose Gold as Samsung likes to call it).

“What I like most about the Galaxy Gear is that it isn’t just a gadget, with its selection of colours and features it is a fashion statement, which I think is really important, especially if we are to wear it everyday,” GadgetsBoy said. By working in perfect harmony with your Smartphone, thanks to a piece of technology called Smart Relay, the Galaxy Gear allows you to access your phone without ever having to take it out of your pocket.

You can keep your mobile in your pocket or bag, and Gear will tell you when you receive a call or message. When you get an important notification on your Gear, Smart Relay brings up the full message when you open your phone. You’ll have seamless communication from your watch to your phone.

Samsung are also updating their software this week that now allows third-party app notifications to show up in full; meaning you’ll be able to read your incoming Gmail messages, Facebook Messenger pings, Twitter mentions and Google Hangout messages, to name a few, in detail.

It really is an innovation that makes you re-think the way you connect and generally live your day-to-day life. You can make and receive calls without using your hands via the latest S Voice  technology which understands your voice and lets you stay in control using voice commands, as well as turning dictated notes into text with Voice Memo. The Galaxy Gear’s built-in camera allows you to take snapshots and short videos at a moment’s notice, and you can even access and sync your Apps instantly on the Gear, too.  No more fumbling for your phone – Gear’s always on hand (literally), so you’re free to live in the moment. With a Galaxy Gear, you’re fully kitted out for whatever the day may bring, offering something never seen before. – this is technology at its best . James Bond eat your heart out.

Other cool features worth mentioning include the Auto Lock, which basically locks your Smartphone when you move more than 1.5 metres from it, and also the Pedometer. This calculates your steps taken, and shows a nice healthy lifestyle application to Galaxy Gear.

Inside the Galaxy Gear you’ll find an impressive 512MB of RAM and also 4GB of storage. For a device that performs pretty basic tasks the RAM seems a slight overkill but it does mean that the Galaxy Gear is blisteringly fast; swiping through the menus and opening apps with ease.

Samsung quotes the battery life is around 25 hours typical usage time on a single charge and up to 150 hours stand by.

And, last but not least. It tells the time. How smart! It just shows, some things never get old.
