Larsson & Jennings, the Swedish brand behind a minimal movement in watch-making offer a great collection of unique, simple designs and optimum quality.
All the label’s models fuse together the best elements of British design with that trademark Swedish sensibility.
Nowhere is this more clear than with the new DT | LJ, a tweed-strapped seasonal collaboration between the watchmaker and London design collective Dashing Tweeds.
The partnership sees the Hackney-based design house take responsibility for producing a 100 per cent British wool strap. The striking ‘Red Sergeant’ chevron pattern, combined with the signature Larsson & Jennings watch face, exemplifies how different styles can blend together to create a completely unique and stylish accessory.
However there are plenty more styles on offer, from #menswear-friendly camo (inspired by Sweden’s forests), to the limited edition all-black Svart, which features a leather suede strap paired up with dulled chrome fixtures and fittings. The all-new Chain Metal line introduces Milanese straps into the Larsson & Jennings mix for the first time and are available in silver, black and gold.
Larsson & Jennings are synonymous with contemporary aesthetic, a look largely attributed to the classic circular clock face. All the watches have a strrong ahd scratch resistant mineral crystal sapphire glass and a Ronda 762 movement, ensuring the timepieces are produced to the highest quality standards.
Each watch has its own character but the makers have been careful not to depart too far away from the theme which has afforded the brand so much success.
L&J claim to express their brand’s virtues with a ‘clean and minimalistic’ dial. The watches are both functionally and aesthetically silent. It’s simple. There is no second hand, no date-wheel. In fact, the only number you see on the dial is in roman numerals, 12 depicted as ‘XII’, the rest are straightforward markers. Time seems to pass without urgency, and that truly encapsulates the message of the brand. Simplicity. Combining both ‘British heritage’ and ‘Swedish minimalistic style’. They have truly mastered the art of eye-catching simplicity. Their lines of beautifully stylistic watches which have a flowing transition are striking to say the least.
The watches themselves are not too overbearing, nor too heavy, weighing in at a sensible 44g, and for those of you who like to get your wrist wet, fear not as these bad-boys are equipped for a depth of 50 meters.
It doesn’t appear that any corners have been cut in the creation of this watch; the attention to detail is superb, especially for such a young brand.
Of course, the most important feature of any watch is how well the watch keeps time; otherwise, what’s the point? It seems Larsson & Jennings have it covered, using Swiss Quartz movement to ensure product quality and timekeeping ability.
Overall, Larsson & Jennings’ simplistic timepiece, accompanied with a very modest price tag, is a great investment.
