Burberry’s creative mind Christopher Bailey rarely fails to surprise us. Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, the brand is now more than 150 years old; his vision is fresh and forward thinking, combining tradition with innovation to create perfection. For Burberry’s Spring Collection 2016, Bailey has chosen to vary his partnership of fabrics, with cotton, silk, satin and cashmere all taking the spotlight alongside each other. He believes the body will react differently to the new range, aiming for a unique take on the clothes wearing experience.
Lace has become a dominant feature, with it being visible on most shirts within the collection. Its complex yet refined style breathes the elegance and sophistication Burberry is known for. The ornamental cotton lace has been skilfully integrated into precisely cut jackets and ties, creating a look that is both grounded and ingenuous at the same time. A special mention also has to go out to Bailey’s rejuvenation of the classic trench coat, in which he has incorporated lace to its collar, something we think adds the ultimate touch of finesse.
Another highlight includes the use of cashmere knit-pants with a silk t-shirt; cashmere granting the body warmth, with silk awarding that fresh feeling – Perfect for those days when you’re in two minds about your choice of clothing because of the typical British weather.
Finally, camouflage and militaristic details make a familiar appearance, with a focus on lightweight layering. If you have a browse at Burberry’s website, it’s all there to feast your eyes upon within the ‘New Arrivals’ section. Here, you’ll find camouflage jackets, scarves, backpacks and military boots to complete your look – besides the aforementioned trench coats, of course, which are always a must.
