For the UK fashion fans, one of the most important dates on the calendar is the bi-annual London Fashion week, that took place from 17th to 21st February.
The famous FROWs (front rowers), as predicted, were out in full force with the veteran supermodel Naomi Campbell, the pop star Katy Perry, the actress Penelope Cruz and many other celebrities.
London Fashion Week provides some insight about what we will be wearing next season – and more importantly what to invest in now – and while we expected to see trends that we may be unlikely to adopt come autumn (like socks and sandals – you can “thank” Mulberry and Prada over in Milan for that one),
here are a few trends from London Fashion Week that you could actually wear.
MENSWEAR
- Camouflage is the season’s most conspicuous pattern. Make sure you pick up a detail, like a baseball cap, T-shirt or a field jacket popping with the pattern.
- Rollnecks were prolific across the catwalks, knitted thick and often worn slightly oversized as a top layer in their own right.
- Dark Mossy Green. For those who aren’t tempted by the highlighter shades so frequently appeared in this Menswear Autumn Winter London Fashion week, deep, dark mossy green is another must. This classically masculine colour was seen across the catwalks, generally on fabrics like boiled wool and this sort of green works well on all skin colours.
WOMAN FASHION
- Bright colours and flowers. Stop connecting autumn and winter with dark and grey colours and fill your wardrobe with bright colours and flowers. From cobalt to ochre, with no need to hide your florals away next season, we’re delighted to see.
- Country checks. It wouldn’t be the winter season without a check or two and they took centre stage at Mulberry and Daks. From bold tartans to Prince Of Wales and windowpane, we’ll definitely be channelling the trend come autumn in our outerwear.
- Big knit. Cosy, comfy and ideal for hiding a multitude of sins, long length jumpers were often worn over satin slip dresses.
