Callooh Callay

untitled

Callooh Callay opened in November 2008 to be one of the few cocktail bars in Shoreditch which delivered high-quality drinks and service, but without any of the typical pretension. We also wanted to do things a little differently with our design and with our menus, for which we have become pretty famous.

In the 8 years which have followed, their very particular design and menus made them become pretty famous, serving cocktails to hundreds of thousands of guestsand winning several important awards: the Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail 2016, World’s Best Cocktail Menu in 2012 and have been named in Drinks International’s World’s 50 Best Bars in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

With a name from Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky, one expects a slightly surreal experience and those that adventure past the entrance will not be disappointed.

Callooh Callay is comprised of three rooms; the Front Bar, the Back Lounge and the Jubjub Bar. Enter through a wardrobe, sit in some bathtub seats and enjoy an extensive and eclectic mix of cocktails served by some of the best staff in the Capital. The Narnia-style wardrobe door is located upstairs and shows the way to the member only Jub Jub bar.

Apart from the truly unique feel of the place, the other main reason to enter the delights of Callooh Callay is to enjoy a huge range of cocktails. All are prepared by knowledgeable and friendly staff, usually under a childhood picture of themselves. This is one place where you can discuss your personal tastes with the tender and wait for them to produce something special.

The black ceilings, with walls lined with old cassette tapes or wrapping paper, shows itself best in the evening when the moody lighting defines the modular seating & little concrete tables. The back room is a little more regal, with vintage settees & 1960’s units converted to tables. For those lucky souls invited to mix in the Jub Jub, one can relax and recline in a Victorian styled parlour.
