It’s the game on everyone’s lips at the moment, children and adults alike are getting involved with the latest craze, with it recently becoming ‘bigger than Tinder’ (and accidentally a dating app), Pokémon Go gives us a genuine look into the future and believe it or not, could be a taste for what our jobs may look like in the not-so-distant future.
Augmented reality is king
We’ve seen augmented reality before, but not at as wide of a scale as this. Walking around with random Pokémon showing up on your phone won’t be a formality when going about your daily tasks, but ‘previews’ of what could be, or augmented examples of topics & tasks may be a bit closer to home.
Think outside the box
You may be seeing the current form of aug-reality as something as a neck sore – constantly staring down at a phone while you wait for something to happen on said phone – but when it REALLY takes off, we’ll be talking about headsets and the enhancement aug-reality can bring to our day-to-day lives, without completely removing the gift of sight we were given.
Generally, seeing something in front of you is much easier than actually having to visualise it – If you can think up ideas while your headset is actively painting a picture of this for you… quite frankly it’ll make explaining ideas and strategies a whole lot easier.
It can make selling something even easier
Imagine being able to tell someone something over the phone or face-to-face, for them to have that exact idea generated for them to see with their own eyes there and then? Not only does this make your job even easier, it makes it more effective – If you can sell an idea or product to someone now, it’ll only get ten times easier when aug-reality REALLY takes off.
It’s not just a game
There has been press surrounding this game on both ends of the spectrum, but nobody can deny the positive impact Pokémon Go has had on otherwise unfit people – This is a fantastic way to get people out and about, and there’s no reason an aug-reality app or game developed just for business can’t have additional benefits outside of its intended purpose.
This is only the beginning
There are already smart contact lenses, glasses & other less-intrusive gadgets out there, they just aren’t available to the immediate public in mass quantities… yet. ‘Pokémon Go’ may seem like a strange, childish game to some, and an amazing, revolutionary game to others, but there’s simply no hiding from it – Augmented reality has arrived, and it’ll be here to stay.
