Blackberry Z10

Blackberry z10SQBlackBerry’s latest handset, the Z10 is the most recent attempt to break into the top spot of the maturing Smartphone market competing with the likes of Apple, Google, Samsung, and Microsoft.

At first glance there’s no new striking design features, it looks similar, if not identical, to the iPhone 5, but it is a sturdy phone which has been well-designed and beautifully crafted.

One of the main differences to previous Blackberry devices is the button-less, gesture-based navigation system which often makes operating quite confusing and timely, you are required to do too many swipes and button presses to get to information that should be easily accessible.

Once getting past BlackBerry’s occasionally confusing operating system, there are a few standout features of the Z10, one of which is the camera software. In addition to standard still photo and video, the 8-megapixel camera includes Time Shift. This is a useful tool where you can truly obtain the picture-perfect photograph. Not only is the camera production good quality, but the resulting image is of distinct excellence. Colour clarity and editing abilities are both great, however it does lack an auto-adjust option for the screen’s brightness affecting the battery life, which like most Smartphone’s, is never as good as the old Nokia’s of the 2000’s.

If you’re an app fan, the Blackberry Z10 is not for you as there are a very limited range of app options.  Other devices already out there are much more suitable and offer a greater range of resources and features, even basic apps such as Skype are not available.

Even with all of the flaws found, the BlackBerry Z10 is a decent Smartphone. However, while it does have the potential to replace your current Android or iOS device, it doesn’t really give you many showcasing features persuading you to do so. Some aspects of the phone may be better than what you currently own, but most are, at best, on par with what you can find on most other competing devices.

The Z10 is worthy enough to see the company through, but those who have invested time and money to another platform may need more convincing before making that leap. It’s a good Smartphone but it doesn’t present you with anything different or particularly innovative than what’s already on offer.
