Goodman’s is a New-York style steakhouse in the heart of London, just around the corner from the Bank of England.
Sourcing only the best beef from both sides of the Atlantic – from USDA ‘Prime’ corn-fed herds to grass-fed Scottish beef, grain-fed Irish Angus and rare breed Belted Galloway from Devon – Goodman’s present a uniquely British interpretation of a New York grill.
Goodman City opened in London’s financial district in the summer of 2010. The room itself is dark and moody, filled with tables of serious-looking besuited men sitting on leather banquettes. There’s a faint conspiratorial whiff of deal-making in the air, Goodman oozes old school charm and glamour. At the front of the restaurant is a large bar area, while at the back of the room is the kitchen and a glass-walled dry-ageing room filled with Jurassic-sized hunks of hanging meat. It is, in other words, exactly like a steakhouse should be.
The melt-in-your-mouth meat is cooked over charcoal to give it that fabulous smoky flavour. It is always cooked with perfection, exactly as ordered and tastes sensational. Couple your delicious steak with some truffle chips and mac and cheese and you’re in for a real treat. Wash it down with one of London’s largest collections of American red wine and you’ve a match made in carnivore heaven.
From the wagu beef to the smoked salmon everything is precisely presented and well executed. Desserts are decadent and the Ice Wine is not to be missed. The perfect place for business lunches and dinner date destinations.
The staff are knowledgeable and the service is prompt yet friendly and relaxed. This is a top-quality steakhouse serving juicy plates of mouth-watering tender meat in elegant and stylish surroundings. I fear the jury will be for ever be out on whether Hawksmoor‘s steaks are better than Goodman‘s and it’s not so important. What is important, is that they both do some great steaks. Great steak. Great wine. Great people.
