Long hailed as one the best bars for cocktails in London this speakeasy-style reservations-only bar is an intimate and calming alternative to the usual Soho bar scene.
Sister bar of the equally secretive Milk & Honey New York, it’s a hideaway for the true City workers. The dimly-lit surroundings and cosy, intimate booths create a setting of seduction without sleaze.
The members’ only floor provides an exclusive area to unwind and relax, including The Red Room, The Games Room and The Roof Terrace, where you can enjoy a small selection of carefully chosen cigars purchased from The Red Room. However, anybody can make a reservation for a two-hour slot pre-11pm for the ground floor and the basement bar. Please note though this is on a first-come, first-served basis and you have to call well in advance.
30s swing and jazz provide the background whilst you sip an array of perfectly executed classic cocktails designed by cocktail guru Dale DeGroff. Try ‘The Business’ with gin, honey and lime for a fresh pick-me-up, or go for the ‘Bentley’ with calvados, Italian vermouth and bitters for all-round opulence.
Every effort goes into making the highest quality drinks, from pressing their own ginger to make their house ginger beer, to hunting down rare bottles of wines and champagnes; they even cut their own ice and squeeze their own fruit.
They also produce a great selection of delicious hot and cold plates that are ideal for grazing. This isn’t just pub grub though; select from steamed lobster and crab with a lemon and chive dressing, tiger prawns wrapped in crisp filo pastry with sweet chilli and ginger or swaledale lamb cutlets with an aubergine and tomato relish.
Hidden down the bottom of Poland Street it’s easy to walk past Milk and Honey without knowing it was ever there but you will be eternally grateful when you do eventually find it. Expect extraordinary cocktails made my expert bar tenders using only the finest ingredients, all set in the most stunning surroundings.
