Voted the sexiest restaurant in the UK by The Times, Clos Maggiore is the perfect date-night venue to treat a partner. Influenced by the stylish country inns of Provence and Tuscany, its unique interior is an intimate setting for couples, groups of friends or business diners.
The setting is a little retreat right in the heart of Convent garden, serving beautifully presented contemporary French cuisine. The light, flower-bedecked conservatory at the back has a fully retractable glass roof creating a bright and airy dining space when you want to escape the hustle and bustle on the capital. The fake blossoms, sparkling fairy lights and the open fire all add to the romantic ambience. Meanwhile, the moodily lit, wood-panelled rooms in the front are equally attractive, offering you a warm, relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
The sophisticated French dishes are of distinct high calibre with exquisite combinations such as, a sweetly rich starter of roasted foie gras and crisp confit duck leg with poached peach, hazelnuts and pain d’épices. Meanwhile, the flaky fillet of slow-cooked cod ‘rougaille’ served with vermicelli, mussels and a creamy chorizo sauce is to die for. Using locally sourced seasonal ingredients, Chef Marcellin Marc cooks sublime Provençal inspired cuisine with contemporary panache, with the result being a perfectly balanced menu and dishes cooked to perfection. Decadent desserts with wine suggestions to complement, top-notch cheese and a cracking selection of Cognacs draw proceedings to a winning conclusion. Tasting menus are an added attraction, as is the varied vegetarian menus, not forgetting the wallet-friendly prix-fixe at £15.50/19.50 for two/three courses.
The award-winning wine list has an extensive range on offer, from costly hidden treasures, to delicious, beautifully priced bottles, there really is something for anyone and everyone. You may have to visit the menu several times to even brush the surface of the wide-ranging wine list as you really are spoilt for choice. The sommelier will happily guide you through the immense list offering you his expertise and honest advice.
The service is truly impeccable. You are made to feel very special, welcomed and cared-for. Everything in this place has been well thought out with meticulous attention to detail. With all this you’d think it would be ridiculously expensive but it is fairly reasonable. In particular, the set lunch/pre- and post-theatre menu is an outstanding bargain.
This really is a wonderful venue and one that ticks all the boxes. Exquisite food, a mind-blowing wine list, and perfect service set in stunning surroundings, makes this place the ideal one-of-a-kind dining experience.
