Featured in TimeOut’s list of top Italian restaurants in London, Locanda Locatelli is a must try, whether you’ve got a passion for Italian food or not. Indeed, the menu has such an imaginative take on Italian food that connoisseurs and not are left to appreciate and wonder at it.
Located in the Hyatt Regency London a few steps away from Marble Arch, the place was hit by a gas explosion in 2014, which obliged Giorgio Locatelli, the celebrity chef of the restaurant, to close the restaurant for a good few months. Yet, the refurbishments didn’t take long, and the restaurant reopened in 2015, on the same site.
The already mentioned Michelin-star chef of the place, Giorgio Locatelli, is considered to be one of the finest chefs in the world. Combining tradition, creativity, and his own personal touch he came up with a sophisticated menu where quality is never compromised.
The name of the restaurant emphasizes the convivial aspect of eating, at the center of the chef’s vision and mission. As Locatelli suggests, for Italians “the sign of welcome is to feed people. At the heart of all cooking, whether you are rich or poor, is the spirit of conviviality, the pleasure that comes from sharing a meal with others”.
Indeed, the dining room focuses on preserving a sense of family dining without forgetting privacy. The staff is thoughtful and attentive, and will take care of your needs throughout the meal with tact and savoir faire.
The menu changes every day, aiming at the freshness and seasonality of the ingredients. You can choose from an extensive list of antipasti, pasta, pesce (fish), carne (meat), contorni (sides), and dolci (desserts). The wine list is also remarkable, bringing to the table top spumanti, whites and rose, and also featuring dessert wines. Not to forget the list of classic and contemporary cocktails to water your mouth before dinner or at the end of the meal.
Just to give you an idea of the dishes being offered, among the pastas you can choose the “egg free pasta parcels with borage, ricotta and walnut sauce” or the “pasta twists with tomato, black olives, capers, anchovies, almonds, and mint” among the others.
Fish and meat dishes are also remarkable: try the oven roasted wild black sea bream with wild chicory, garlic, chilli and bagna cauda, or the “veal with Parma ham and sage, baked aubergine, Parmigiano Reggiano and girolle mushrooms.
The dolci are all impeccable, but of particular note, we suggest their classic tiramisu, or the white chocolate fondant with morello cherry and croccantino ice cream.
The restaurant doesn’t take online reservations, and still relies on the traditional phone call, so don’t wait to reserve your table and enjoy top Italian food in a high-end atmosphere.
