Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Dinner Heston LogoFocusing on the revival and modernisation of traditional British recipes, the menu at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal features simple contemporary dishes inspired by Britain’s historic gastronomic past and recipes dating as far back as the 16th century.

Blumenthal and Executive Chef Ashley Palmer-Watts consulted with food historians and spent years researching menus at The British Library in search of ideas. The result is a menu that has achieved worldwide recognition and will not only excite your taste buds but will also stimulate your mind. The menus themselves include details such as the year from which the menu item originates and the history of the dishes; these wonderful dishes offer a unique insight into Britain’s rich culinary history.

Adapted for the modern palate, these dishes include forgotten classics such as Spiced Pigeon with Ale and Artichokes and Tipsy Cake made with Spit Roast Pineapple. The signature Tudor inspired classic dish Madarin Meat Fruit has received particular praise. A savoury meat course disguised as an orange. Its gel-like zesty sheen yields to a delectable chicken liver mousse and foie gras parfait, with chargrilled sourdough bread being the perfect partner.

The ice cream trolley holds a contraption created by Blumenthal and his team, it mixes custard and liquid nitrogen to create instant ice cream at the tableside.Everything about this place is awe-inspiring and delicious.

The restaurant intends to change the menu every three months, each containing new historical dishes ranging from the 14th to 19th centuries.

Sited in the Mandarin Oriental hotel, the interior is made up of natural materials such as dark word, leather and iron. The design references historic craftsmanship whilst simultaneously creating a chic, contemporary feel. With exceptional views of Hype Park as well as an impressive glassed in kitchen, diners can witness everything around them.

Service is an impeccable combination of professionalism and welcoming warmth. As expected, the wine list is extensive and expensive, though house choices are excellent value.

Opened in January 2011, it gained a Michelin star within a year, and has recently received a second Michelin Star in the 2014 Guide. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal updates historic dishes with flair, precision and high quality; this really is a must-visit.
