Possibly one of the only restaurants in the world to feature a ‘Press for champagne’ button on every table, Bob Bob Ricard gets the Russian-British blend just right. Located in the prime location of Soho and around the corner from Hamleys, this is luxury dining at its finest.
With 1930s themed décor that takes visitors to the Orient Express, you’ll find yourself ordering champagne – which is an experience on its own – while you admire your surroundings. Situated on the ground floor and inspired by the Golden Age of Travel, legendary interior designer David Collins created The Blue Dining Room, which features all-booth leather seating and is award-winning for a reason.
Additionally, The Red Dining Room downstairs champions a red-and-gold colour scheme with oriental patterns and distinctive backgammon motifs. It’s not possible to specify a dining room when booking, so definitely have a peak on your way to the rest rooms if you get chance, it easily holds its own merits for exceptional design.
Russian entrepreneur turned British restaurateur Leonid Shutov heads operations. With a background in advertising and marketing, he uses his passion for luxury food and rare spirits to entice you into luring your friends and family to BBR – mission accomplished, right?
Upon arrival our coats were taken before being shown to our booth, where our waitress immediately assured we had water and were offered bread. Once we had chosen our drinks and food orders, everything arrived promptly, with a good resting period between each course.
The accent is certainly on fish and general seafood, with a menu boasting lobster and a multitude of caviars, but BBR features plenty of above ground-level alternatives.
After an exquisite cheese soufflé starter, I chose the Chicken Kiev and beef onglet with two sides; spring greens and mashed potatoes – The beef was cooked to order and the Kiev was delightful. Mash was creamy and smooth and the greens were fresh with a nice bite. My partner went for sea bass with spring greens and said it was, and I quote, “the best sea bass I’ve ever tried”. I of course made sure there was room for the Dulce de Leche Crème Brulee.
Bob Bob Ricard is the only UK restaurant endorsed to serve Château d’Yquem by the glass. Every table has a ‘Press for champagne’ button and the restaurant is famous for pouring more bubbly than any other restaurant in the UK. The wine list is equally as impressive.
Prices don’t come cheap, we spent around £150 between the two of us, but you get you pay for. Diners are expected to come dress elegantly, with ties optional – make sure you book and don’t just turn up on the day.
This is certainly somewhere to come for a special occasion, whether you’re celebrating tying up a deal or toasting a valuable client, Bob Bob Ricard is a must-go.
