Now open in Shoreditch is ‘the biggest thing to hit London’s drinking scene’. Fluid Movement’s second bar after the ground-breaking ‘Purl’ in Marylebone, The Worship Street Whistling Shop is set to redefine cocktails in the capital.
This intentionally gloomy, austere basement sets out to combine ‘the charm of Victorian squalor’ and ‘the elegance of grand gin palaces’. The latter is referenced in a series of well-executed, heritage-inspired drinks including Ginny Joy and a Black Cat’s Martini – its ‘removed cream’ prepared in a Phileas Fogg-esque in-house lab that is open to inspection. Also notable are Deadly Nightshade (Hennessy Fine de Cognac, irradiated chocolate wine, apricot and aubergine crisp) and Panacea (Compass Box whisky, lavender shrub, honey, lemon juice and sage dust) – a sure-fire cure-all at £9. Their extensive cocktail list is made using a large array of enzymes, acids, proteins and hydrocolloids to create drinks that are truly unique.
In addition to cocktails they invite you to browse their library of vintage gins, some of which are over 100 years old, and all are for sale. They have also recently launched their own gin! In partnership with Master of Malt, they have succeeded in bottling the same Cream Gin that goes into one of their most popular and ground-breaking cocktails, The Black Cat’s Martini. Available from MoM website for £41.95 a bottle.
Otherwise, investigate Camden-brewed ales, English sparkling wines, and various combos aged in oak casks, as well as a wide selection if whiskies. They are so passionate about whiskey that they boast that you will be taken on a spiritual journey which will change your perception on how to appreciate whisky. Engaging all the senses, this is a roller-coaster ride depicting the beginning of time through to the 21st Century on how whisky has evolved.
Everything about this place is experimental with a focus on science and history, aiming to bring multi-sensory mixology to the masses.
Burgers, pork pies, cheese and meat boards are delicious and can be enjoyed in either of the two separate private experience rooms served by dapper, Downton Abbey-style new Edwardians who are friendly and eager to place.
The Worship Street Whistling Shop is sure to dazzle all, with an all-encompassing gustatory experience. Book your seat now!
