Light Bar is a cocktail bar, a lounge and, subject to demand and numbers, an occasional lively late-night club in St. Martin’s Lane Hotel. Although it’s called a bar, you won’t actually be waiting at one. Instead, Light Bar offers table service only, meaning your legs get a well-deserved rest and you can spend the night talking away without ever having to leave your seat.
The seating is almost exclusively arranged to accommodate couples and small groups made up of discerning and trendy Londoners. The music is lively yet not interruptive and the staff are attentive and friendly.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights feature top DJs attracting the hottest nightlife. It’s guest list only, so there’s no blagging your way in. It’s exclusive and fashionable, reserved only for the very best.
As one would expect, light is the main feature of the site. The venue is split up into three distinctive sections solely by the use of light. All the colours of the rainbow are featured from the furniture and tables to the wallpaper and carpets. Light brings a new life to colour and you will find yourself questioning your perception of and sensitivity to colour. At various points throughout the evening, the walls glow purple and orange highlighting the black and white photographs on the ceiling of Phillipe Starck and his nephew pulling funny faces.
The Light Bar’s thorough cocktail menu comprises martinis, champagne cocktails, classics, innovative classics and long drinks, most priced between £11 and £13. There’s four pages to choose from and it might take you a while to make up your mind as the combination of unusual flavours, such as apple and lavender or strawberry and black pepper, seems infinite. There is also a wide variety of premium bottled-beer, an impressive collection of spirits, and fine and accessible wines – most of which are available by the glass.From the moment you enter the Light Bar, until you leave, there is a constant flow of simple yet exciting features.
