Granger & Co London – Review

granger300Fancy trying some Australian food this weekend? Why not popping into Granger & Co then?

Granger & Co, which has three outposts in London – Clerkenwell, Notting Hill and King’s Cross, is considered to be among the best restaurants in the British capital where you can taste some good, authentic Aussie delicacies. The restaurants are owned by Bill Granger (who is the Aussie version of Jamie Oliver) who made a name for himself and his top cuisine first in Sydney in 1993 with a restaurant in Darlinghurst, and twenty years later all over the globe with opening restaurants in Tokyo, Seoul, Honolulu, and finally landing in London.

Bill is famous for his easygoing outlook on food and for his good and positive disposition, and his restaurant reflects his spirit, and the Australian spirit: “sunny, easygoing and generous”.

The restaurant is ideal for both breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, given the ample menu choices and accommodating opening hours. The menu combines large breakfasts, munchkins and big plates, hearty BBQ and healthy grain bowls and pasta, besides a good selection of refreshing desserts. Highlights of the menu include miso aubergine, crispy tofu and shiso as an appetizer, yellow fish curry, spiced butternut squash, roast peanuts, jasmine rice and cucumber relish in the mains, grass fed beef burger, pickled green chilli, herb mayo and rocket in the BBQ section, and white chocolate and pistachio pavlova, strawberries and yoghurt cream in the desserts.

The friendly atmosphere of the place makes it ideal for families and eating out with friends. We would say that for meeting a client for the first time on a business lunch it would be slightly too informal, but if you’ve known your client for a long time, it’s a good place to discuss business as well. It’s definitely a great place to go to for after-work drinks, thanks to its wide choice of cocktails with an Australian twist (the watermelon cooler is a must try).

The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so go early! You’ll have to wait a bit to get seated, but trust us, it’ll be worth the wait!
