Corrigan’s Mayfair Review

corriganFollowing on from our list of the best places to take someone on a business lunch, we bring to you an in-depth review of Corrigan’s Mayfair.

Situated a stones throw away from Hyde Park, Corrigan’s sits in the capital’s hub of luxury. Surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars that offer flawless food at a reasonable price, Corrigan’s does not just compete with the nearby establishments, it flourishes.

First impressions are hugely important and upon entering the restaurant. With the inviting leather seating, elegant lighting, fitting music and stylish décor, Corrigan’s ticks all the boxes of a grand dining experience, whilst still allowing guests to feel at ease. But if you require a more private setting, Corrigan’s offers three private rooms to book for no additional charge. The Kitchen Library, an intimate round table swathed in books with an opening to view the kitchen. The Chef’s Table, a glamorous long table where guests can watch the theatre of the kitchen through the glass window. Finally, the newest addition, The Poet’s Corner is a curtained off area of the restaurant just for you.

It is integral when going out to dine, that you feel that your needs as a guest are taken care of. This responsibility lies with the waiting staff and in Corrigan’s, the staff achieved this and more. In an affluent area it is too easy to fall into the stuffy, rigid and almost distanced form of waiting. The staff at Corrigan’s did not fall into that trap, they were attentive without being overbearing, they were efficient without rushing, they engaged with their guests without cutting in on conversations. Hospitality lives and dies by the establishment’s service, Corrigan’s staff were extremely hospitable.

The restaurant prides itself on the variety of its traditional cuisine and caters for the customer’s different needs; including the lunch and dinner a la carte, seasonal lunch, Sunday lunch and the popular taster menus. More of an event, than a meal, the taster menu has five decadent courses fit for special occasions. The remaining menu’s all have one thing in common: a strong showing of seafood dishes with traditional line caught cod, whole Dover sole and salad of native lobster. Along with the succulent suckling pig cutlet and the delicate, tender veal, there are plenty of mouth-watering options to choose from. Unfortunately, despite the strength of these menus, there is an omission of vegetarian alternatives, with Kale and goats cheese ravioli and potato & cheese fondant salad dishes being the only two currently available.

The experience of dining is not complete without sampling the beverages available. In Corrigan’s there are plenty of bottled beers to help redeem only having two draught beers at the bar. There is an extensive wine list, boasting wines from all over Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand. The cocktail list, however, is relatively short – though with the vast array of spirits, liquors and aperitifs, you’d imagine sending a request to the barmen could pay off.

After exploring the menu, you will note that the prices are in line with the area. In Mayfair, it is expected to pay a little bit more for the quality provided. Typically the average price is £35-£80 per head, unless you take advantage of set menus for £40 or the current Sunday lunch offer of 3 course for £29.

Whether you are impressing a new client on a business lunch, enjoying a long afternoon with friends or celebrating a special occasion; Corrigan’s Mayfair has all the ingredients to leave you feeling satisfied.
